(KMJ) In an exclusive interview with KMJ talk show host Ray Appleton, GOP Presidential front-runner Donald Trump discussed the central valley’s water crisis and Fresno’s rising crime rate among other pressing issues. LISTEN HERE
Coincidentally, just minutes after Trump ended his interview with KMJ and headed off to headline the GOP California Convention in Burlingame, came word that Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin endorsed Gov. John Kasich for President. In a release, Mayor Swearengin said “He has a proven, pragmatic and responsible record of getting things done for the American people. If we are serious about winning and putting solutions first to grow our economy, I encourage Californians to join me and support Governor Kasich as he makes his way to the convention and to the White House.”
Trump’s lunchtime speech at the Convention was delayed because of a disturbance from anti-Trump protesters. The mass demonstration forced Trump and his entourage to jump over a small retaining wall to access the GOP Convention being held at the Hyatt Regency. “It felt like I was crossing the border” Trump said as he began his speech to the crowd.
(CNN) Protesters — some of whom wore bandanas over their faces and carried Mexican flags — blocked off the road in front of the Hyatt Regency here, forcing the GOP front-runner’s motorcade to pull over along a concrete median outside the hotel’s back entrance. Trump and his entourage got out and walked into the building.
“That was not the easiest entrance I’ve ever made,” Trump said once he began speaking at the convention, adding, “it felt like I was crossing the border.”
At one point, about two dozen protesters tried to rush barriers near the hotel. Police officers then rushed to the building’s doors, successfully blocking the protesters from getting in.
Several physical altercations, including shoving, could be seen between protesters and police officers, who were using batons to push them back.
After Trump arrived, protesters took down a barrier and flooded the entrance outside the hotel, where police again blocked them from entering. They chanted, “Get him out.”
17 protesters, some of whom got violent, were arrested Thursday evening outside of another Trump event in Costa Mesa, CA.
