Farm Workers Demand Justice Outside 5th District Court

GERAWAN PROTEST 3

Over a hundred Gerawan Farm workers protested outside the Fifth District Court of Appeals on Ventura Street.

The workers say they want justice from the California Agricultural Labor Relations Board – and they don’t want to unionize.

Jesse Rojas is a farm worker activist, and organizer who says the main reason for their rally is the ALRB ruling that the company they work for interfered with them voting to whether or not to stay with the UFW.

Gerawan workers voted about two and half years ago – their votes were never counted — and may never be as a result of the ALRB ruling.

GERAWAN PROTEST 1

“They are very angry as you can tell – because they have been fighting for so many years” – Jesse Rojas, Farm Worker Activist.

KMJ’s Liz Kern: “What do you want to see?”

Jesse: “I would hope the state ALRB would recognize them, they have gone everywhere just begging to count those votes.”

Some farm workers have accused the ALRB of having inappropriate ties to the UFW.

This week — the Labor Board upheld a court ruling — that Gerawan interfered with the election for union representation — by allowing employees who favored breaking — to gather signatures during work time — and unlawfully granting a wage increase during the decertification campaign — to win the favor of workers.
