FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — 1,900 pregnant women have been automatically transferred from Covered California to Medi-Cal, despite the fact that they were supposed to be able to keep their policies.

The glitch is being blamed on a recent policy change in Medi-Cal requirements, and computer system issues with the exchange, which won’t be fixed until September.

The director of the advocacy group Maternal and Child Health Access tells the Sac Bee that one woman missed a month of prenatal care.

Reporting a pregnancy to the state exchange is not a requirement, and advocates say at this point, it appears to do more harm than good.
