FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Wrapping up in blanket, eating popcorn, and watching movies may seem like a logical way to deal with negative emotions.

However, according to a new study published in the journal Cognition and Emotion, aerobic exercise, such as running, appears to be far more effective.

Researchers examined the emotional states of dozens of adult men and women, who were shown an upsetting scene in a movie, to induce sadness.

Those who went jogging or running reported being in a more positive emotional state, than those who didn’t exercise.
