FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Smokers appear to have a harder time landing a job.

That’s according to a newly-released Stanford University study, which tracked a group of unemployed adults for about a year.

In the end, smokers were 24 percent less likely to have a gig than their non-smoking peers.

In addition, those who did find work, made less money.

Researchers took into account age, overall health, and education.

They say several factors may be responsible, but some hiring managers said they find the smell of tobacco offensive, and question smokers’ ability to remain focused throughout the day.
