FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — If the Golden State is to legalize recreational marijuana, it should form a highly-regulated market, for both recreational and medical use.

That’s the recommendation of the California Public Policy Institute, who says California should learn from the experiences of Washington and Colorado.

The PPIC says the state should err on the side of more restrictive regulation, to limit illegal activity and protect the public.

According to a Department of Finance analysis, California could gain $1 billion in revenue each year, if voters approve recreational pot use this November, for adults over 21.
