FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California Public Utilities Commission would be ordered to conduct deeper background checks, and regulate prices, for companies such as Uber and Lyft, under a bill making its way through the Legislature.
Its author, Democratic Senator Ben Hueso, also wants law enforcement to have more power over drivers, and require better accommodations for disabled riders.
However, the tech industry is largely opposed.
In addition, Hueso’s ties to the taxicab industry have raised many questions, given that his brothers own a cab company.
