FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Between 1900 and 2004, the Golden State saw it’s population grow by 3 percent each year, which is a rate more than double the national average.

California was regarded as one of America’s most desirable places in which to reside.

However, times have changed.

2015 marked the 11th-straight year, according to a Sac Bee analysis of Department of Finance data, that California’s population grew by less than 1 percent.

Fewer people are moving in, and birth rates continue to decline.

Hundreds of thousands have left for states with a lower cost of living, according to IRS data, and immigration from Mexico has slowed substantially.
