Police Chase Stolen Box Truck Through Fresno & Clovis

BOX TRUCK SUSPECT

(KMJ) –  On Saturday March 19th, Fresno Police received a call of a truck stolen near Church and Maple.  That call, which came in just after 12 p.m. said the truck  belonged to Monterry Mexican Products,  Its driver was on a route making deliveries.   The vehicle was an all white  24-foot cargo box truck with food products still inside.

Officers found the truck on Chestnut heading toward Kings Canyon. But the driver, identified as 26-year old Alexis Ortiz ignored the officers and kept driving.

Police say the pursuit continued North for a short distance, to Olive.  At this point the truck drove over a median, proceeding the wrong way, then turned west onto Olive.  It then proceeded at the speed limit continuing west, then north on Maple.

The truck traveled into the City of Clovis and Clovis Police were alerted to it. Officers say Ortiz then turned East on Gettysburg into Clovis.  That is where Clovis Police took over the pursuit.

The truck eventually continued to Shaw, turning west until it turned into the Ramada Inn at Shaw and Freeway 41.  There, officers took Ortiz into custody.  The entire chase lasted approximately 45 minutes but no collisions occurred while officers followed the truck.

Alexis Ortiz be charged for Auto theft and misdemeanor evading by Fresno Police.  He will also be charged for felony evading by the Clovis Police Department.
