FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Average home values and equity tend to be lower, while foreclosure rates are often higher.

According to a new RealtyTrac study, that is usually the case in areas of with a high rate of registered criminal offenders.

In addition, home price appreciation appears to be lagging.

Analysts say the research indicates that registered offenders pose not only a safety risk, but also a potential financial risk to what is often a family’s largest asset.
