(KMJ) – Fresno Police say an apartment resident blew himself up with butane while trying to convert marijuana to honey oil.
This happened Tuesday, March 8th around 2:45 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the Ashbrook East Apartments, located at 3520 East Ashlan Avenue. There police and emergency crews found 30 year old Erik Anthony Gregg with severe burns over 60% of his body.
The preliminary findings of the investigation show Gregg was using butane to convert marijuana to honey oil. Officers say during this chemical process there was an explosion which caused the fire. The blast injured Gregg and set the apartment ablaze. Gregg’s cat was also seriously burned in the explosion/fire.
He was transported to CRMC for treatment of his severe burns. His injured cat, and other animals in the apartment, were taken by CCSPCA.
HIDTA narcotics officers are now conducting an investigation with Greg as the suspect regarding his manufacturing of drugs, converting one drug to another drug which is a felony charge of manufacturing. He will also be a suspect for arson and for felony animal cruelty.
