FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Women are 80 percent less likely to enjoy retirement.

According to a new study by the Institute on Retirement Security, women in the U.S. are at a higher risk of poverty in their senior years, due to lower pay, time taken off to care for family, and a longer life span.

By the age of 80, a man’s income is typically 44 percent higher.

The findings come amid a national conversation about the gender wage gap.
