Reading & Beyond Among Non-Profits Getting Golden 1 Grant

READING AND BEYOND

Local literacy programs are getting a boost.

This year, eight Central Valley non-profits working to advance literacy and programs for foster youth as they transition into adulthood were awarded a total of more than $157-thousand dollars from Golden 1 Credit Union.

Among this year’s recipients; Reading and Beyond.

“We are serving around 2,000 kids throughout school sites, and community sites, but this funding is specific, we will be using for the community sites which is an area needing a lot – we don’t have much funding and well needed for kids who are struggling, especially with reading skills.” Luis Santana, Executive Director, Reading & Beyond.

Reading and beyond provides early childhood education, literacy intervention, college preparation, and workforce development, and a variety of life services to more than 3,000 children and their families, each year.

Since its inception in 2014, the Golden 1 Community Grant Program has partnered with 77 nonprofits, providing more than $1.4 million to support youth literacy and supporting foster youth as they transition to adulthood.
