FRESNO (KMJ) — The valley chapter of a national organization, which makes handmade blankets for children, has been given a significant donation.
The Fresno Kings Madera Tulare Chapter of ‘Project Linus’ received $4,600 from this month’s community breakfast at Tachi Palace Friday morning.
The group endeavors to help kids who are critically ill or in a traumatic situation by giving them handmade blankets.
“All of the breakfast receipts are matched by the casino”, says Chapter Coordinator Betsy Champ.
“Some of our blankets locally go to Children’s Hospital, some to the burn center, we provide blankets to some of the Police Departments, some of the Sheriff’s Departments, Child Protective Services. A wide variety of organizations”.
The donation will be used to continue to buy supplies to keep making blankets for valley children.
“Hand made by members of Project Linus. Those are our volunteers, we call them ‘blanketeers'”, continues Champ.
The non-profit’s name stems from the Peanuts character ‘Linus’, who’s known for carrying his blanket everywhere he goes.
“There are a lot of children that are going through some sort of trauma on a daily basis in the valley. And the Tachi Palace donation is going to really increase our ability to provide for that need”.
