FRESNO (KMJ) — Fresno State’s Collegian Newspaper has found itself at the center of controversy for comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.
The piece suggests he brings out racism and xenophobia.
Under the headline “Donald Trump is going to get us all killed”, the article criticizes Trump’s actions on the campaign trail and suggests that his policies are similar to those of Adolf Hitler in the years preceding the Second World War.
Since the editorial’s publication, Fresno State’s President Castro has been distancing himself from the comments made in The Collegian.
On Twitter he highlighted that the suggestions printed in the college newspaper, that Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump’s America “is the Fourth Reich”, are the opinion of the Editorial Board.
But with only five candidates left in the race for the 2016 Republican Presidential Nomination, nothing seems to be able to derail Trump’s lead in the polls.
Since the editorial’s publication, The Collegian has published a piece clarifying it adding that they feel it’s a “pertinent and necessary discussion on the current political climate”.
The Editorial Board have also established that the comparison was deliberate, but highlighting that it was an opinion piece and not a news story.
