February 23rd is World Spay Day 2016 – an international campaign that promotes the life-saving benefits of spaying or neutering pets.
Nearly 90 percent of animals in Fresno are put down because of overpopulation – the 3rd highest in the nation for euthanasia according to Central California SPCA Spokesperson, Walter Salvari.
The Central California SPCA has a special deal on February 23, when they will be performing 30 spay/neuter surgeries on cats and dogs.
“What we plan to do is giveaway 30 free spay or neuters over at our small animal hospital to the first 30 people who call in at 9:00 Tuesday, February 23rd and we are hoping to get a lot of calls of course.” – Walter Salvari, Central California SPCA Spokesperson.
Pets must be at least 4 months old and current on vaccines or over 6 months old without vaccines.
Spaying and neutering pets is not only a proven way to reduce pet overpopulation, but altering pets increase their chances to live longer and healthier.
According to the American Veterinarian Medical Association (AVMA), spaying or neutering pets can dramatically reduce or eliminate the risk of developing certain types of cancers in both males and females.
Altered dogs and cats are less likely to mark their territory, wander and become lost, get hit by cars while searching for mates, and are less likely to bite or become aggressive.
