Got a bad boss – hang up a cross….
A new study finds that moral symbols can keep bad bosses at bay.
According to this new research moral symbols – such as that religious poster or an ethically righteous quote embedded in the signature of an email – can keep employees from getting pulled into their boss’s dishonest business practices.
That’s according to research from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.
The study was based on scientific observation and for some employees – those who are asked to fudge financials, help cover up a marital affair or participate in broad deceit, and may feel forced to choose between their morals and their jobs – it couldn’t hurt.
The study is scheduled to appear in the Academy of Management Journal.
