A cold case homicide suspect is brought to custody, 27 years after the murder took place.
The murder happened in 1989, in the parking lot of a Visalia bar, where a scuffle took place.
Steve Guerra, who in his 20’s, was stabbed to death, and another man also died in the incident.
Detectives believe Elio Benavente was the one with the knife.
Last week, the 46 year-old was arrested in Mexico, thanks to an anonymous tip.
Visalia Chief of Police Jason Salazar says in a partnership with the FBI, the El Paso Sheriff and Mexican authorities, Benevente was extradited, and brought back to Visalia on Monday, February 15th.
The Tulare County DA had officially charged him with two counts of homicide back in 1989 – one for the death of his accused accomplice and one for Guerra.
