FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Unlike the 1998 El Nino season, which caused $550 billion in damage, California homeowners are not waiting to purchase federal flood insurance.
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Californians bought more than 27,000 new flood insurance policies, during the final month of 2015.
February has largely been dry; but, El Nino is still around, and much of California is at increased flood risk due to the drought, boosting the need for flood insurance.
