FRESNO (KMJ) — The federal Office for Civil Rights has finished its investigation into Fresno State – and concluded that they’re in the clear. The college is now no longer under the gaze of Title IX investigators.
The original case goes back to 1992, when allegations of inequality between men and women’s sports were raised by one of the athletics administrators.
“The agreement was put in place in order to resolve some Title IX complaints that had been filed against the university in the areas of athletic financial interests and equal benefits and opportunities”, says Interim Vice President of Administration Debbie Adishian-Astone.
“As part of that agreement, the university was required to complete a self assessment and to specifically address some action steps that were contained in the plan”.
The college is now looking to the future, to ensure the work that was done remains in effect.
“We are just continuing to utilize a lot of the great work that was done on the self assessment and the plans and the regular monitoring. We have a gender equity monitoring committee that meets regularly, and so the efforts that were put in place as a result of this agreement – we are continuing”.
The announcement by the university states that the OCR established that all 45 steps required in 2009, were taken and completed.
