(KMJ) Fresno – Hundreds of homemade valentines were handcrafted by students to be sent to veterans.
Former Fresno Mayor and Assemblyman Jim Patterson created the “Valentines for Veterans” program, and picked up some of the cards from Liberty and Garfield Elementary Schools.
“Lots and lots of the kids here have family members – aunts, uncles, moms, dads, grandpas, one even had a great grandfather that served in the military so they are not only composing valentines to veterans they don’t know but in their own hearts and their own minds, this is a valentine to their loved ones, and their family as well, so you can sense that.” – Jim Patterson, Former Fresno Mayor and Assemblyman.
Rhonda Gilmore, a Blue Star Mom whose kids attended once the school was there for the presentation, showing a photo of her sons who are serving in the military.
This week, the cards will be delivered to the VA Hospital just in time for Valentine’s Day.
