FRESNO (KMJ) — Residents of both Fresno and Madera Counties can get their taxes done for free.

The ‘Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program’ was put together by United Way of Fresno and Madera Counties, and is open to anyone who earns $62,000 dollars or less.

“We recognize that affordable tax preparation services are out of reach for many in our community,” said Lindsay Callahan, CEO of United Way Fresno and Madera Counties.

“In addition to the savings derived from using this service, taxpayers can reduce the amount of income tax they pay by claiming valuable credits. We know that tax refunds help many in our community achieve greater financial stability, and we want to help them keep more of what they earn.”

The group completed more than 7,000 returns last year, bringing a total of $12 million back in refunds.

Free, in person, filing is available until April 18th. Anyone looking to take them up on the offer should call 211 for hours and location, or visit www.uwfm.org.
