With Super Bowl comes the parties… and the food….enough to fill a linebacker…with the calories to go with it.
Beer, nachos, chicken wings, chips, pizza, burgers and more beer.
During the Super Bowl some people eat up to a whopping 6,000 calories, but Registered Dietician Sunny Yingling says there are some tricks to keep an eye on your calories.
“A lot of it has to do with the fact that Super Bowl foods are often finger foods – people will just tend to like grab a handful of this and eat, so we’re not very mindful of how much we’re actually eating.” – Sunny Yingling, Registered Dietician.
Yingling says you get a better idea of what you’re eating if you don’t stand by the snacks, and if you plate your food.
“If you take a plate and put whatever is being offered onto your plate it gives you a visual of what you are actually eating… versus the ongoing consumption of those high calorie foods.” Registered Dietician Sunny Yingling.
Divide your plate into 3’s – 1/3 protein – your chicken wings, a third starches – your chips, and a third lighter fare like fruits or veggies.
If you don’t think there will be healthy options, Yingling says bring your own food to the party – such as a vegetable tray so you are assured that you will have a lower calorie option to eat.
