Fresno County Supervisor Henry Perea Joins Mayoral Race

HENRY PEREA RUNNING FOR MAYOR

Henry Perea, who currently holds the Fresno County Board of Supervisors District 3 seat, announced that he’s running for mayor.

Perea served six years on Fresno city council before taking a seat on the county board of supervisors  in 2004, now the Democrat says he wants to be mayor

“The number one reason I’m running is because I really do believe that there a lot of good things that are happening in Fresno, but it think we can do a lot better.” – Henry Perea, Mayoral Candidate.

Perea says the next mayor has to commit to current projects like the Fulton Mall, and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) important for revitalization.

“But beyond that, then you have to look at well, what is it you need to do to keep the city not just where it’s at but growing, said Perea, “You have to have a safe community, you have to have quality of life in place, you have to deal with slumlords – just a variety of things that you have to do to make sure that you bring the economy back to a point where people are working.”

He says a balanced budget is important – money must be spent in all parts of the city.

“If we have neighborhoods that are suffering, everybody suffers in the long term, so it’s money well spent to make sure that neighborhoods are strong in every corner in our city,” said Perea. “And I think that’s going to be the broader focus of our next mayor.”

Perea says he thinks we are heading for a recession and that we need to keep our priorities on strengthening the economy in Fresno.

Perea faces two Republican opponents; H. Spies and Lee Brand.
