Sex trafficking is a $32-billion dollar industry, and Fresno is just one site where the human sex trade exists.
Victims are all around the city, and are forced into sex work or servitude and child labor.
Creating awareness is one step to making positive change, and Fresno County Supervisor Henry Perea is hosting the “Human Trafficking – Call To Action” Forum, January 25th to make change.
Perea says victims can range from being runaways to at risk youth or people brought into this country without papers.
“When you are talking about the undocumented populations in this country and in this Valley who don’t have papers, so then they come in and they use them as forced labor either in homes or in different industries well, they become victims from the standpoint of they have no voice they have no where they can go for help. those are the types of stories we are going to be talking about, tonight.” – Henry Perea, Fresno County Supervisor.
The forum will include a screening of the trafficking documentary “chosen,” followed by a panel discussion with human trafficking experts, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, non-profits and survivors, as well as a Q&A session.
The Fresno County DA and Alameda County Assistant DA will be on hand to share groundbreaking initiatives in both counties.
The forum is 4:00 to 6:00, Monday, January 25th at the People’s Church on Cedar in Fresno.
The public is invited.
