(KMJ) – Fresno Police were called to a home on the 500 block of West Vassar Avenue Wednesday after a resident there had found a hand grenade inside their home.

The home owner told officers she arrived from Washington with her adult daughter to clean her residence for an upcoming sale.  She told them the home has been unoccupied for the past four years.  But, she discovered someone had been staying inside of the residence during their absence.

As she and her daughter were in the garage cleaning, she told police her daughter found the hand grenade on a shelf.  They examined the hand grenade and decided to place it in the backyard away from the home.

The Fresno Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Supervisor was called in and everyone inside the home was escorted out of the area.  After examining the device, it was found to be a training hand grenade with the detonation device missing.  The item was rendered safe and seized by the Bomb Squad.

The Fresno Police Department encourages everyone to NOT handle possible dangerous devices.  And, if you are aware of any dangerous devices or wanted persons,  call Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP for a cash reward. You can always remain anonymous.
