FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Democratic California State Senate Transportation Committee Chairman James Beall Jr. has announced plans to hold oversight hearings on the High-Speed Rail Project.

The hearings, which would examine management performance, construction schedules, and expense estimates, will be the first significant legislative oversight in several years.

The HSR Authority is set to unveil its 2016 business plan. It’s hoped the hearings will help to accelerate the construction schedule and lower costs.

The estimated $68 billion project is seeing no shortage of controversy, with critics at the local, state, and federal levels of government.
