Walmart Closing 269 Stores – None In The Central Valley

FRESNO (KMJ) — Walmart says it will close 269 stores in the U.S. and abroad, but none of the closures affect stores in the Central Valley.

In a statement released Friday morning, the company says the closures will impact 16,000 associates with 10,000 of them in the United States.

Of the stores in California, Walmarts in San Jose, Long Beach, Oakland, Los Angeles, Bell Gardens, Altadena, San Bernardino, and Hawaiian Gardens will be shutting down by the end of January.

More than 95% of the closing stores are located within 10 miles of another Walmart.

The company said affected associates will be given priority for open positions. Associates who aren’t relocated will receive 60 days pay and, if eligible, severance and job training skills.
