(KMJ) – Fresno State will host a Drought Summit from noon-5 p.m. Friday, January 15th.
The gathering will convene regional faculty, researchers and administrators to develop an action plan for managing water, drought and climate variability in the San Joaquin Valley.
The 20 participants will meet in the Smittcamp Alumni House at Fresno State. Dr. Gil Harootunian, director of University Initiatives at Fresno State, said this is the first regional collective of its kind.
Representatives of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California State University, Bakersfield, and University of California, Merced will also attend. Fresno State Provost Lynnette Zelezny, who has expertise in environmental psychology, convened the summit. She said the drought presents challenges so complex for the Valley that individual institutions and scholars must work together to take action.
