FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Deadly terror attacks, such as the San Bernardino tragedy, do not appear to have altered Californians’ views on gun control.

According to the latest Field Poll, 57% of voters say increasing restrictions, is more important than protecting gun rights. That figure is similar to those from 1999 and 2002.

Support for stricter controls rose in 2012, following the Newtown, Connecticut shooting.

While firearm restrictions are highly partisan, a large majority of Californians do favor background checks for ammo purchases.

Although views on gun control haven’t changed much, gun sales hit a record in the Golden State last month.
