FRESNO (KMJ) — A man in his late 50s has died after Fresno PD say he tried to break up a house party.

It was early Sunday morning when police were called about what was happening at the home close to the intersection of Friant and Audobon.

Officers say there were two calls made – one at 1.30am the other at 2.12am. It was the second call, which made reference to fighting in the street, that police responded to in force.

But by the time they arrived they found 57-year-old Guy Birrenkott not breathing on the front lawn. He was later pronounced dead. Officers believe he was involved in a verbal and physical confrontation with one or more party goers prior to his death.

“Just unexpected, obviously”, says one neighbor. “It’s not the norm whatsoever in this area.”

“It’s kind of a mixed neighborhood as far as families go, some older folks and young families. It’s very residential, very pleasant place to live”.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was at the party to contact them and help piece together what happened.
