FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — It was 5:15 Friday morning near Blackstone and El Paso. A retired Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy was getting cash from an ATM, when according to Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer, “An individual walked up behind him, said ‘it appears to be cold out here,’ and the next thing the victim felt, was a stun to the back of his neck with a stun gun.”

Dyer tells KMJ News that the former deputy made his way to his car, where he had a gun in the door. “He grabbed the gun and ordered the suspect to the ground. A female pulled up in a vehicle, told the suspect to get in the car, and was about to drive away. When the female jumped over a curb, and struck the victim’s vehicle, the victim felt that he was about ready to be hit by the car, and fired several rounds, striking her in the leg area,” Dyer said.

The car used in the crime had been reported stolen in the Sacramento area.

The woman has been hospitalized, and police are now searching for the male suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jeremy Lynd.
