Officer Raising Money to Buy Canine From Los Banos Police

WESTBROOK CANINE

(KMJ)-  For 17 years Officer William Westbrook has protected the streets of Los Banos.  And the last 3 years he has done so with his police dog partner, Maximus.  He’s a dog Westbrook has raised since a puppy.

But a knee injury is forcing Westbrook to possibly retire from the department.  Now he has about 20 days to raise $15,000 to buy Maximus from the Los Banos Police Department.

Westbrook understands the department sees Maximus as another officer.  The police dog is trained in finding all forms of drugs, tracking, catching criminals and protecting his handler.

But to Westbrook, Maximus is more than a partner, he’s part of the family.  Now he says he’s swallowing his pride and doing something he’s never done before. He now asking others for help to raise money to keep his partner.

Westbrook adds that any extra money raised over the $15,000 will be used to buy bulletproof vests for the departments other police dogs
