FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — An initiative seeking to mandate that transgender people use public restrooms corresponding to their biological sex, has failed to qualify for the 2016 ballot.
The Privacy for All campaign was unable to gather enough signatures.
The initiative would have prohibited transgenders from using single-sex facilities that matched their gender identity, unless they had a medical exam or court judgment verifying a change from their sex at birth.
Several California LGBT groups had been prepared to campaign against the proposal.
