If you found a bag of money – what would you do?

An honest Applebee’s server did the right thing – he turned it in.

The money was found at the restaurant chain’s Cedar and Herndon location.

Carrie Hellyer, the Area Manager for Applebee’s, says the employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, gave the bag to the manager who then handed it to her.

The bag was navy and looked like a pencil bag, but when they unzipped it, that’s when she says they saw the cash.

“It was unnerving” she says, describing being in possession of that large of an amount of money.

They waited about 45 minutes for the faintly to return but they didn’t.

Hellyer then called Fresno Police dispatch, who didn’t believe her at first when she told them just how much was in the pouch.

There was so much money that she said she and the other managers had to count it twice to get the sum correct.

Turns out, the family had left it there by accident, and didn’t realized the money, which was savings from the family’s business, was gone.

Hellyer says the employee will be recognized internally by corporate Applebee’s for his honest deed.

She says he didn’t want the notoriety but did it just because “it was the right thing to do.”
