CA DMV: Self-Driving Cars Still Need Licensed Drivers

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California DMV has proposed regulations, which would require that a human being remain behind the wheel, of all autonomous cars.

However, it wouldn’t be just anybody; a licensed a driver would have to be ready to take control, in the event that the self-driving technology were to fail.

The department says it’s continuing to support and promote the development of autonomous cars.

Upcoming workshops will aim to gather input from the industry, consumer interest groups, and the general public.
