FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — 76 percent of paroled sex offenders, previously prohibited from living near parks, schools, and other places were children congregate, no longer face residency restrictions.

That’s according to a recent analysis by the AP, which found that 4,200 of California’s 5,900 offenders are no longer affected.

The state had initially expected about half of them to be restricted.

Offenders who are considered child molesters will still be banned from living within 2,000 feet of where kids learn and play.
