FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Hate having to get a filling?

University of Sydney researchers say in many cases, a no-drill approach appears to halt tooth decay.

A 7-year study found that the need for fillings declined by 30% to 50%, when patients use preventive care, after the first sign of tooth decay.

The study’s lead author says many believe that even the smallest sign of tooth decay warrants a filling. In reality, decay doesn’t always progress, and often, it develops more slowly than widely believed.

Oral cavities are said to be largely preventable, through proper hygiene and healthy eating habits.
