FRESNO (KMJ) — The shootings at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino prompted emergency closures of other similar facilities across the state – including some in the Central Valley.

The San Bernardo facility, which was the site of Wednesday’s shootings, is one of 21 non profit regional centers funded by the State of California that administer community services for the developmentally disabled.

The Central Valley Regional Center serves areas from Merced County to as far south as Kern County. It closed its doors Wednesday afternoon as news of the incident reached them.

Kern Regional Center in Bakersfield was also closed Wednesday afternoon.

“While we want to believe that it’s foolish to try and live in fear, we did have concerned employees who frankly weren’t getting a lot of work done so we asked them to go home”, says the center’s David Riester.

Both the Central Valley Regional Center in Fresno and the Kern Regional Center in Bakersfield are expected to be open as normal on Thursday.
