FRESNO (KMJ) — Investors looking to bring old abandoned properties in the City of Fresno back up to code now have support from the city’s ‘Code Lien Waiver Program’
It cancels out up to $50,000 in property fines, citations, and unpaid code enforcement fees if a new owner comes in and wants to restore it.
“There are properties out there that can be fixed up in the neighborhoods”, says property investor Steve Walters. “The city’s helping with the money part and that gives me more incentive to do a little bit more than what I would have done”.
Steve credits the ‘Home Lien Waver Program’ with helping him restore a hundred-year-old home in Downtown Fresno back up to code.
It had $110,000 in outstanding bills still to pay, but Steve says the City of Fresno was willing to pay him to bring back from the brink.
“When I get this completed I will get up to $40,000. They write me a check, money that they have attributed every time they send somebody out here from code enforcement”.
“It’s a win for him and it’s a win for us”, says City Manager Bruce Rudd. “Don’t let the amount of liers we have on a property dissuade you. Give us a call”.
