FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — State Controller Betty Yee is blasting the California Board of Equalization, for incorrectly sending nearly $48 million in retail sales taxes to the general fund, which created short falls in other accounts.
Yee, who is a member of the board, says loose accounting even allowed employees to request salary advances out of what what essentially an office expense fund, sometimes without the approval of management.
The BOE says it’s taking this audit seriously, and intends to make appropriate changes.
