Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack will travel to Japan Thursday and then onto China over the weekend to meet with his counterparts about the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Vilsack said this will be his first meeting with both ministers and that he intends to “underscore how the TPP will strengthen trade throughout the Pacific Rim region, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs in the food and agricultural sectors in the United States and Japan, alike.”

Vilsack will also meet with U.S. exporters and Japanese importers, and participate in a town hall meeting with Japanese high school, undergraduate and graduate students to underscore the nations’ strong bond and the importance of young people considering a career in agriculture.

In China, Vilsack will join Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, Trade Representative Michael Froman and Chief Agriculture Negotiator Darci Vetter for the 26th session of the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade.
