FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Drinking coffee appears to do more than merely help one get through the day.

According to a large-scale study published in a journal by the American Heart Association, consuming moderate amounts of coffee reduces the risk for a number of chronic health conditions, and could prolong your life.

Thousands of participants were tracked for 30 years. After adjusting for several factors, such as age, fitness, sugar consumption, and smoking status, researchers found that coffee consumption was associated with a lower risk for death from cardiovascular disease, neurological diseases, and suicide.

Overall risk is reduced by anywhere from 9% to 15%.

The study concludes that coffee consumption can be incorporated into a healthy lifestyle. Just don’t go overboard, as you could end up with anxiety, among other issues.
