FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Energy drinks are bad for your health, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

After consuming a 16-ounce can of Rockstar, participants experienced an increased heart rate, and higher blood pressure. That can lead to a host of cardiovascular problems.

Researchers say the effects are further amplified, when energy drinks are consumed with alcohol, drugs, and tobacco.

The Mayo Clinic had previously recommended limiting consumption of energy drinks to 16 ounces per day, but the latest research calls that into question.
