FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Business leaders need to find balance when it comes to how they treat their team.
According to researchers at North Carolina State University, treating some team members much better than others is likely to have a negative impact on performance, as can treating them all the same.
They say the relationship between differentiation and team performance is more of a bell curve, than it is a straight line.
If leaders go too far in treating members differently, they’ll likely end up with two subgroups — the in-group and the out-group — which often leads to poor performance, and could result in disruptions.
