FRESNO (KMJ) — Helping the thousands of children in California waiting for adoptive and foster parents is the drive behind one state assemblyman wanting to make the adoption process easier.
In the State Assembly, 23rd District Representative Jim Patterson says he’s been trying to make California’s adoption process easier ever since he got elected.
“What we try to do is to use the office in the California legislature to streamline the adoption process. There’s a lot of challenges to adoption but we think the pathways are pretty clear and we’re trying to introduce those pathways to as many people as possible.
“Because of the joy of adoption but also because of the need that these kids have to be in families”.
Assemblyman Patterson has first hand experience with the process, after he has his wife adopted three children. He says he knows how difficult it can be to work through the issues potential parents face.
The Assemblyman is working with non-profit ‘City Without Orphans’, putting together a workshop for prospective adoptive and foster families.
“This is the second year of our adoption fair, it brings together all of the adoption agencies and it brings together moms and dads who seek to adopt and want to know how”.
It takes place in Family Community Church (2434 E. Nees Ave) in North East Fresno this Saturday, from 9am until 12pm.
