BAKERSFIELD (KMJ) — A drive to get more women into positions of power is kicking off in the South Valley.
It’s as part of ‘Women’s Empowerment Day – Bakersfield’, and it’ll see a veritable who’s-who of powerful women coming to our part of the state.
The one day conference is being organized by non-partisan California Women Lead, which aims to provide women the skills and tools to be empowered leaders.
“That’s why we try to bring in women from the local community”, says Executive Director and CEO Rachel Michelin.
“We have former Assembly Minority Leader Connie Conway speaking, we have women leaders in the non-profit sector, in the business sector, to share their experiences in the hope that we can empower and inspire other women to take a risk”
As well as women in the political and non-profit spheres, Senator Andy Vidak will be among the speakers.
“A lot of our biggest supporters are men”, continues Rachel. “We’re not about saying we don’t appreciate the contributions men make in leadership.”
“What we’re finding is more and more men in leadership positions want to partner with us because they too realize that having more women – either in elected office or appointed office – makes their job easier”.
Tickets for the event are available at the door throughout the event Monday October 26th – and the information you need can be found clicking here.
The conference is taking place Monday October 26 between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM. It’s happening at 10000 Ming Ave., Conference Center 50.
