FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The conservative Christian legal firm Alliance Defending Freedom has filed a lawsuit on behalf of churches, against the California Department of Managed Health Care.

This, after the agency mandated that churches pay for elective abortions in their health insurance coverage.

The firm contends that the mandate is unsupported and unnecessary.

It argues that churches should not be forced to pay for the killing of innocent human life, and that the government has no right to violate their religious beliefs.

Two privately-funded, church-based California crisis pregnancy centers have also filed a lawsuit, in response to a recent law that requires them to provide abortion information to their clients.
