FUSD School Board Holds Closed-Door Meeting

FUSD(KMJ) – The Fresno Unified School Board held an urgent, closed-session meeting Tuesday night. The agenda for the School Board’s meeting included only one item – consider three cases of potential litigation.

The Board discussed hiring an attorney to represent Superintendent Michael Hanson, Chief Financial Officer Ruthie Quinto, and Chief Operations officer Karin Temple.

The need for legal counsel comes amid a federal grand jury subpoena. It was served to the district last month and demands answers about the use of public bond money and school officials’ relationship with the Harris and Bush construction firms. Those companies were hired by the district to build schools under no-bid contracts.

Per the subpoena, the District is required to turn over a wide range of documents by November 19th. Those include officials’ personal e-mails and phone records.

Some took issue with the abrupt meeting, saying there was only 24-hours notice for the emergency session.

Ultimately, the Fresno Unified School Board took no action Tuesday night.
