FRESNO (KMJ) — Six counts of allegedly touching young students inappropriately have been levied against a former janitor at a Fresno Unified school.

Fresno Police say they arrested Benjamin Wong, after receiving a complaint from a parent at Norseman Elementary where the crimes allegedly took place.

Officers say they date back to 2013, but doesn’t know if Fresno Unified were aware of that.

“As soon as we started investigating we advised Fresno Unified of our investigation and they immediately placed him on administrative leave”, says Lt. Jeff Motoyasu.

“I don’t know exactly what they knew prior to our investigation”.

The 52 year old was arrested on Sunday and Fresno Unified School District released this statement in response.

“Fresno Unified placed the employee on administrative leave in conjunction with law enforcement’s investigation. The employee resigned in late July and no longer works for the district.  We will continue to take aggressive action against employees that do not reflect the high professional standards the District expects of staff.”

Fresno Unified’s representatives didn’t explicitly answer whether or not the School District had received notice of the allegations before Fresno Police intervened.

“We were notified by the police of the allegations in May”, says Fresno Unified School District’s Jed Chernabaeff.

Which doesn’t make clear whether Fresno Unified knew about the allegations before the investigation started.
